Donor FAQ's

1. I am having trouble getting enough milk when I pump. I know I'm producing because my baby is growing well, but my body does not seem to respond well to the pump.  Can you point me to some resources?

Kellymom has some excellent information about pumping and milk storage. Click here for some tips on pumping more effectively.

2.  How long can I store my freshly expressed milk?

Milk is generally considered "good" if it doesn't have a pungent odor or taste.  The following chart offers guidelines, based on current research.

 Room Temperature
 Refrigerator  Freezer Deep Freezer
 <4 hours
 < 8 days
 < 6 months
 < 12 months

3.  Will I be paid for my milk?

No, we rely on the generosity of mamas with an overabundance of milk who want to help a family in crisis.

4. Is there a minimum amount necessary to donate?

You can donate as little or as much as you want.  There are no minimum amounts set.  Similarly, we are as grateful for one-time donors as we are for ongoing donors.
